Student of the week

Meet Liya Dave

What inspired you to become a psychosomatic therapist?
My journey into becoming a psychosomatic therapist started when I was 15 and a client myself. I was going through my own healing process, working through personal trauma and deep emotional challenges. At the same time, I became fascinated by the mind-body connection—especially knowing about my dad’s story. He’s a twin who was separated from his brother at birth, which made me curious about how early trauma, attachment, and the nature vs. nurture debate shape who we are. All of this led me to explore both psychology and spirituality, and eventually into this field. Helping others heal became not just a passion but a calling.

How has this work changed your own life?

It's completely transformed me. Doing this work has changed my life in endless ways and has helped me become more emotionally grounded, more full of life and light, and connected to my purpose. It’s not always easy to face your wounds, but learning to understand the body’s messages is powerful. I’ve grown in confidence, peace, and clarity—and I’ve seen firsthand that healing is possible, even when it feels out of reach.

What does healing mean to you personally?
I am in school to get a formal psychology degree as well, and this gives me the opportunity to understand the surface-level mind, body, and brain, combined with this work that provides me the rest of the answers to how we work and why. Throughout all of this, I have understood that healing is about returning to your true self. It’s not about "fixing" something broken—it’s about understanding and releasing what isn’t yours to carry. It means listening to your body, your feelings, and your unconscious mind, even when it’s uncomfortable. It’s a journey of getting yourself back and seeing life through the most authentic, happy, and safe lens.

What kind of clients or issues are you most drawn to help with?
I’m especially drawn to working with people who are curious and open-minded. I resonate with those dealing with childhood trauma, inner child wounds, or identity issues, and I know how difficult it can be, but all you need is curiosity. Understanding where emotional or physical symptoms might really be coming from can alter a fixed mindset that we have held onto for so long.

What message would you give someone who’s never tried this kind of healing before?
You don’t have to have it all figured out to start. Psychosomatic therapy is a safe, gentle, and powerful way to heal in every way. Your body holds wisdom and memories that your mind alone can’t always access. If you’ve tried other forms of healing and still feel stuck, this might be the missing link. Be open, be curious, and trust that you're capable of transformation. Healing isn’t always linear, but it exists.
